"You are your worst critic."

This definitely applies to me when I edit videos of myself performing. I give myself the most crap for every mistake I sift through. Sometimes, I just take a break from editing because something isn't the way I want it.

I usually just end up wanting someone else to do it so they can find the best parts without being distracted.

So...I came up with an idea. I'm sure people have done it before but I haven't seen anything like this lately.
I asked Sennyo if she would make a video of me if I would do the same for her.
I figured it would be a nice way to get two videos from people who would like to have them. You don't have to worry about being hard on yourself; you work your hardest to make the person you're editing to have the best possible video with what you're given; It's a good way to keep your editing skills fresh.

So. I think our lovely .org is a closely related group of folk. Much more trusting than some other forums on the net. I'd feel comfortable with anyone editing a video of me. And I would make the person I'm editing as amazing as possible.

I challenge you to find a partner who also wants a video of them performing and give them your footage as you receive theirs.

Rules:
- There really isn't a time limit. This is something which the two editors decide.
- There are no limitations on what props can be used or how many of them. If they're filming new footage of you, perform however you wish. If you're sending them your footage...think of it as "whatever you send them can and will be used."
- If the person who is editing you is also filming you, you can't see the footage before it's edited.
- Both videos must be published at the same time. No one can show anyone else online before the other person is done. This is to ensure one person isn't left hanging and waiting for their video after they finished editing someone else's. (unless it's ok with the other person)
- Let go of your image. Please, little to no specifications about your footage is used. I mean, come on.. Editing is an art. And if someone has all of these certain paths they have to follow, how can they express effectively? You wouldn't want someone hindering your art. (if you have a song you would like to use, discuss it with your partner)
- No negativity. Don't give someone a bunch s**t because they happened to not edit you the way you wanted. If you don't want it up, you don't have to have it up. The same goes for them if they don't like their video.
-Work hard on it. You're giving someone an image. Make them the best possible character they can be.

I can't think of anything else. Which is good. I didn't there want to be too many restrictions.
This could be quite a bit of fun if people can let go.

Sennyo and myself probably won't be done for a couple of months. It's a busy time for both of us.
BUT that doesn't mean that other people can't join in on the fun.

So go on. Pick a partner and make them gorgeous!



EDIT:
So. First Helpless videos were made and I'd like to quickly add some suggestions which may help your video editing/filming experience for you and the other person. (a couple of these things I didn't think about ahead of time)

- When you're filming your footage, try to give the person who is editing you something to work with. Standing in one spot for ten minutes isn't as helpful as 2 minutes in five spots. You can have as much footage as you want to send but for the sake of diverse selections, try to be inventive on where you film yourself. A good way to do this is have a friend tag along and tell you what looks good and helps direct you.

- The finer the quality of the footage, the longer it's going to take to...do just about everything. Keep in mind that HD footage isn't applicable with many basic editing programs and can be a strain on your partner's computer. Be sure to communicate with each other on what quality you'll be filming in and how you're going to send it.

- I made the mistake of using two separate cameras to film my partner which had the same recording resolution but a different amount of fps. Rendering was a pain in the ass...The easiest way to get past this is just shoot all the footage on one camera (obviously), but if you somehow aren't able to follow this, be sure to get the remaining footage as close to the previous as possible.

Much of this is common sense but I still made a couple of poor choices which won't be repeated. I'd like to spare you my fate if possible.

Well, it's not like this challenge has a time limit.
You could play when you have time in the future. I hope this actually becomes something which is very ongoing.
I know, at least, I'll be asking people if they want a video edited of them from time to time.
