New Technical/Moves Sections?
A new sub forum for all the different Disciplines would be great, and make it easier for us to discuss the finer details of contact juggling. 100%  100%  [ 48 ]

Many will have noticed that my name has recently appeared in Bold Letters around the forums.

Along with the Admin status, I have been given the task of looking into the possibility of new or renamed sections, with the hope of making our community easier to use, or just leaving it as it is.

So, here are the changes I would like to make to the forum layout;

We have an Isolation Chamber already. I want to add a Multiball forum, and a body rolling one also. If there is call for it, a dance one too. And have them all lumped together as sub categories, much in the same way the three forums appear at the bottom of the main forum list.

The current 'Library and reading room' and 'tricks and Moves' be merged together, and re-labelled as an archive. Highly active threads be moved to their relevant sections in the new forums.

Other than that, I'd leave everything as it is. Maybe just group the existing forums differently.

I think that if we had these new sections, people would end up sharing so much more, and multiball questions and new ideas won't get lost in all the super awesome one ball going on at the moment. Conversation will increase, making the site a lot busier. The new people coming over from seeing the fushigi advert will realise that there is a lot more to this than the infomercial and website was letting on.

Or maybe you don't want to change the existing way, because you like the way it works, and think if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Fair enough, Let us know! :D

I'm gonna open up a poll on this one. Choose carefully! the forum layout is in your hands!

:ball: :stack: :balance:

I'm always a bit wary when it comes to adding new forums, but I think separating out Isolations, Multiball, and Body Rolling makes a lot of sense. And maybe "Movement" over "Dance"?

I'd also vote for renaming Isolation Chamber to Isolations, but only because the current name always reminds me of solitary confinement.

I can see the point in making the new sections. It would certainly make things better organised. I have one concern though, that this might mean that some of the old threads get lost in largely-unused archives. Maybe this wont be a big problem, I'm not really sure what is likely to happen. How will you decide which old threads to archive and which to move into the new forums?

Im all for the new sections, and I agree with Mark, if we are going to have mutti-ball, rolling etc, then we should have isolations as isolations, it would make things clearer.

Good luck in the work ahead!

We would have to come up with clever names for all the different sections then, Like "Multi-Ball Madhouse, Body Rolling Rec Room, and of course The Dance Floor"

Actually my joke started sounding like a good idea!

This could turn into a whole new second poll!!!

How to decide which threads to move and which to archive?

Hmm.

I guess I don't want any archived really, but I'm not gonna go through and move all the very old and outated, and also the duplicate threads...

So, if a thread is posted in after a certain time, say since 1 or 2 years ago, it will be moved into the relevant new section. And if a thread should get bumped in the archive, it can always be moved to the active new section. Unless anyone else has any ideas?

Isolation Chamber is quite funny. I'd love to play on that a bit more. Plus, when you go really deep into these aspects of contact juggling, you really do go a little bit crazy ;) But at the same time, I appreciate order and plain labelling for ease of use. so that would be another thing that I would like done diplomatically.

Keep your posts and votes on this coming, ten votes isn't nearly enough for me to change the board layout. :D

So whenever I am having trouble with moves I can never decide where to go, the isolation chamber, CJ discussion, tricks and moves....

It seems like it would be nice if there was just a section for help needed, or maybe Leaning Center, or something along those lines.

I dont know, I just think it would be helpful to have an established place for help.

how about, you just post it in CJ discussion, then if a mod or admin feels its out of place they can move it and PM you with the details?

Good suggestion. But I should merge this post to the correct thread for it :-p

As this thread was started not long ago. And discusses threadnames and possible new sections.

I would really like a separate multiball section and I'm sure sections for bodyrolling, Movement (rather than dance) etc would be a good thing. I'm wondering if they, as well as the isolation chamber, should be child forums of 'tricks and moves'?
Basically as a way of shortening the number of sub-forums that appear on the forum list.

On diabolo.ca things were getting a bit out of hand especially with the number of videos getting posted. we took the opportunity of setting up video subforum/child boards for Videos of the Week, Practice, Tutorials, Technical, Performances whilst leaving the main video forum free for the standard music/edited type videos.
Theres 30+ pages of videos in the main section (indexed automatically each year by view count) yet it's still possible to check out more specific stuff like tutorials without having to wade through 30 pages.

Related question, is there a redundancy with 'The Library, Reading Room and Workshop' sub-forum?
