MODERATOR NOTE - WE KNOW THIS IS A TOUCHY SUBJECT AND IS STIRRING UP EMOTIONS, BUT PLEASE POST WITH RESPECT AND CONSIDERATION.
THIS THREAD IS NOW LOCKED. A SUMMARY THREAD WILL BE POSTED SOON

Fushigi is what John Cammerano is calling his newest product. It was the "potential gig" that I mentioned previously. The story behind it is that he saw CJ about 4 weeks ago, and was so entralled with it that he wanted to market it. He bought a factory that makes acrylics in China outright. Crazy right?! Well, 4 weeks after hearing about CJ, he has the film being edited, and by next week it will be on national television.

This is the teaser video for Fushgi, the actual commercial will be done some time tonight, or at least this weekend.

Fushigi!

Wow, I saw the video, but I thought it was going to be connected with some sort of a spoof. I didn't expect someone was actually going to be marketing it for real.

I really like the branding btw.

A couple of familiar faces there ^^ I saw Mako at :27 :)

PS I think it's fun that he is calling our hobby something else. Another name to add to the dictionary here =)

Does it feel a bit too commercialized to you? Seeing that contact juggling is a somewhat underground commodity, if that's how you feel, I understand.

I feel the same, except if it is a bad thing, I will actually feel -worse-. The only hope I've got to cling to is that they would do it with or without me.

Yes i suppose that is kinda it....i can't really put my finger on it, i just really don't want some one to come up to me and ask me if i am Fushgiing or a Fushgist or some thing weird like that. Its contact juggling, the thing i have come to know a love. at least there was some skill in the video. i think that i like contact juggling to be our little secret, not the next marketable toy

I think I understand a little how you feel. I certainly appreciate the wonder on someone's face when they see contact for the first time. But at the same time contact/manipulation is a beautiful and elegant art, and I'd be quite happy for it to have a wider audience.

It would lead to people appreciating contact for it's beauty and the artistry of the performance, rather than for its novelty. Which is to say that it may become harder to impress people, but those who are will appreciate it all the more.

Meh. Not sure if I like the attitude either... it feels like it's being marketed as a special ball that allows you to contact juggle. If that's the case, I hope it's a really bomb CJ ball... though I'm guessing it's gonna be a polycarb that gets shipped to toy stores that wouldn't otherwise stock acrylics.

I guess people will probably buy one because they've seen it in an ad and then get frustrated that they can't "make it work." I suppose that does serve the purpose of the marketer, but does it do for CJ?

I foresee our art form becoming significantly more mundane very soon...

Oh sh!t! It's like what happened to Hip Hop in the 80's!

Does this mean that, in the future, I'm gonna be in documentary videos about Contact Juggling, as a Member of MoM, like Ken Swift and the Rock Steady Crew? That could be cool I guess.

Other than that, *shudders*

Assuming the balls that they were using at the video shoot are the same as the ones they are selling. They are good quality acrylics, better than my discounts from Neon Husky. The price frame is a 3" ball for $20, which is the same as Neon Husky.
