So I have recently taken an interest in Rope Dart. I'm trying to gather information on getting started with it, and wanted to know if anyone here has some pointers on this or has some tips on starting out.

For those of you that don't know what Rope Dart is, here is a quick video:

Not feeling it. But it did peak my interest in crazy looking martial arts in general. Thanks for the video.

I know someone who's pretty sick with rope dart, I'll see if he knows any good beginner resources. Alternatively, he taught at Kinetic Fire (and I believe Camp Fire) last year, and may do so again this year (Kinetic invited all of last year's instructors back to teach again this year).

Dont be afraid to move slow with rope dart. You have to keep momentum going but in my opinion some of the nicest rope dart stuff I've seen has been slow looking. If you have the control you dont have to go fast. Martial arts puts emphasis on speed and force. Flow arts dont need that, in fact I think slower is much nicer 90% of the time.

My buddy replied, "Either YouTube or buy a video online. There really isn't much I've been thinkin bout making some and getting better learning videos on YouTube. If nothing else I will be at Kinetic Fire teaching rope dart your friend should come out and we can spend some one on one jam time together."

rope dart is my prop of choice. i can try to help you on something if i can. my tip would be to start with wraps and once you get those down work on open knots. open knots allow you to do compound wraps and basically makes you look like you tied yourself up only for the dart to suddenly shoot out.

I recently saw a guy who is great at martial arts. I've seen him with a sword. That he made.

His movements with poi are similar. The result? He looks really stiff while technically very proficient.

Just got myself a flow-dart this weekend at Kinetic and took a intro class. Well worth it. Its definitely a fun prop that got me to move in new ways. Highly recommend picking up.
