I'm looking for help on improving folding...

My inner and outer elbow stalls are fairly strong but clean folding between them is hit and miss. I've been experimenting with various paths, various adjustments of the movement, and everything from 100% in contact rolls to small throws and catches.

I'm okay if the ball is in motion (as in a folding line) but smoothly switching between static inner and outer elbow stalls and back is really giving me some stick.

Views, descriptions, hints and tips more than appreciated! :D

(Edit: while on the topic, I'm also interested in techniques you use to transition to elbow pit stalls too... cheers!)

One thing with folding lines, have really slow and controlled arm rolls down. and also even though it is visually more appealing, the ball does not actually have to ever hit the inside or outside elbow stall. The fold can happen before the ball gets to those points. Some mild half spiral work might help too.

Hey CJO, sorry I wasn't very clear. I'm not looking for tips on folding lines. Looking for smooth switches between static inner and outer elbow stall points.

Oooops :p, quickness is what you are looking for with that stall switch. Its almost like a small throw. Remember learning the butterfly? how its a small throw and catch and then the throw gets lower and lower till it rolls even though the movement and feel is that of a throw?

This is like a throw/pop-up from inside elbow to outside that never leaves contact. Hope that makes sense and helps. If not I can sit down tonight and go over in more detail.

Sounds to me like youve already got it. Quite over analyzing and go practice! :D
Seriously though, these just take forever to learn, but they'll clean up your folding lines so fast.
Since this is almost completely a stall point trick, try doing various variations with these two stall points and folding lines.

Cradle - outside arm roll-fold to an inside elbow stall
palm- inside arm roll - fold to an outside elbow stall.

Spend some time drilling folding between those two stall points, it sounds like your close to having it solid soon!

At first, heft the ball slightly to lift it off your elbow, and then snap your arm into position for the other elbow stall. Eventually it'll smooth out and turn into a roll.

Remember that the "folded" and "unfolded" elbow stalls hold slightly different positions in space.

Elbow pit stalls: get the ball in your palm to the side of you (like you've just butterflied out), roll over your index finger, and roll the ball up to the stall. Alternately, you can get into that position by doing half a bridge roll (or half an arm curl if you don't have a bridge) until the ball is directly overhead, then "bridgeterfly" out to the side of you so that you're holding the ball in a cradle - but out to your side instead of in front of your chest - then roll to stall.

BrianO fed me beer; I hope that all makes sense.

OcTavO, what position do you have your arm in if your going from an outer elbow stall to an inner elbow stall? I think it is easier if you've got your upper arm angled so that the elbow is further away from the body than the shoulder. Maybe that's a bad way of describing it, but I would advise against having the upper arm at right angles to the chest; have your elbow further away from your body so that when you straighten the arm to go into the inner elbow stall your arm is to your side, not out in front of you. I think that makes it easier, at the very least it makes it look better, especially if you are trying to do a folding line with stall points in it

I agree with Arnar though, lots of practice is what you need. This is pretty hard to do and takes a lot of effort. In my experience, going from the outer elbow to the inner elbow is easier than the other way round.
