I have an account with jugglingwholesale.com and recently recieved the following e-mail:

Quote:
A while back you registered on our wholesale website and I noticed you are involved with contactjuggling.org.
We have been aware of you guys for a long time and like what you're doing.
I just checked out your home page and was really happy to see several of my friends in your 2010 collaboration video( Dimitri et al and NIK). Good work!

I am really just mailing you to see if there is anything we can do to help.
If you were considering setting up a retail side of things we would love to be onboard as a supplier and help you get things started
To my knowledge we have the best wholesale prices for acrylic around (Feel free to correct me) and thought you might be intereseted.
If we can help in any way please do let me know.
All the best
Nathan

So I was wondering what people thought of .org setting up it's own shop. Aside from props, we'd be able to make use of all the creative talent here on .org to design t-shirts (and the like) with all proceeds going to the perpetuation of .org.

Any thoughts?

Ryan Baker owns the site, and he's the best person to speak to regarding any commercial concerns.

He's not been terribly responsive recently however.

I think it is Mark. I have an account with them too so I could get stuff for workshops in bulk. Jugglingwholesale is the backdoor wholesale component of oddballs.

Knee jerk reaction: Holy s**t, balls and .Org Merchandise would be awesome!

However, upon thinking it over for a bit, I have a few reservations from .Org going from separate entity devoted to an art form we love, to possible business/brand and all that implies. While I'm cool with the community creation and selling of .Org shirts and similar items, using .Org to sell props and balls kind of gives a commercial quality to this beloved place that doesn't really sit well with me.

It's less that I have issues with "selling out" or anything with similar meaning, I'd be all for a store opening up under another name or with the support of .Org members. It's more that I percieve .Org to be a place that kind of trancends the different vendors and manufacturers and focuses on the art itself. THis includes discussion on the viability of certain props for certain aspects of juggling, the best places to obtain said props, and retailer reviews based on customer experiences and satisfaction. It's satisfying to know that, as a new juggler, I could come in here and join with literally any round object and gain an overwhelming show of support and guidance to get myself started.

While I have no doubts that little of that attitude would change with the opening of a retail section of .Org, my concern is that future new members would percieve us slightly different when we have a hat in the ring. Instead of being that place where all the jugglers hang out, we'd be the place that sells props and has a forum.

Which isn't to say that selling props is a bad idea, those are just some of the thoughts that came to mind.

*Deposits two cents*

I agree with Toby. If there were a shop that known and active members of .org ran I would be fully supportive of it. But this is Contactjuggling.org, a place of learning and community, not of products and sales. I think selling .org shirts or perhaps mugs would be a great way to help the site out, but I wouldnt want it to become a full out retail shop for equipment.

I'm with Tobi and CJO on this. There's plenty of vendors... but there's only one .org

I think shirts/bandannas/patches/stickes would be cool, but there are to many prop suppliers already.
