I have a set of contact poi but I have yet to really get into any of the contact poi move sets. This week I am going to start looking into it but does anyone have any advice/tips for translating contact juggling into contact poi?

South Florida has quite an active spin scene and I was asked to give a workshop on contact juggling rolls at our monthly spin jam with contact poi in mind and I am looking for any pointers I can pass on or use.

This is my playlist I am compiling on the subject, hopefully others will find it useful. I spent an hour last night working on the 2 basic rolls for contact poi, the outside arm roll and inside arm roll. It clicked very quickly, I dont know if its because they are not that hard or because i have experience with contact arm rolls. Either way I am becoming more confident in my upcoming workshop on the subject.

One of the more interesting things I picked up watching Asaf's(Poiboi)'s tutorials is that he recommends getting the stall on the back and front side of the wrist down, normally very difficult for contact jugglers and not something I have worked on much in the past, but with the cord of the contact poi acting as a stabilizer its much easier. I definitely see why he says to learn these stalls.

I realize I am talking to myself in this thread at this point but im going to keep posting stuff as it comes up anyway in hopes people in the future mind find it helpful. I worked on contact poi finally on Friday a bunch, I worked on it some on Saturday and wrote up my Friday work and things that came in handy. This is what I got.

Day1: 7/8/2011 asaf's tutorials: 1.Stalls( cradle, palm, wrist top and bottom, outside elbow, inside elbow) 2. Inside arm roll ( palm to inside elbow) 3. Outside arm roll ( cradle to outside elbow) when you swing from the cradle position make sure the handle side of the poi line up with the elbow. 4. Start workin on catching the end of the poi on the outside elbow for reverse outside arm roll (outside elbow stall to cradle).
TIPS:1.Make sure throughout all of this you are practicing with both hands/arms. 2. Make sure your posture and arm positions stays solid, don't let it collapse, if you cheat now you will have to unlearn it later. Develop proper muscle memory now. 3. A continuation of 2, everyone has those moments where they want to halfass try a trick and work on it, DON'T. Spend 10 minutes in focused practice rather than 30 just messing with it. If you are just dropping it everywhere and nothing seems to want to go, move on and work on something else for 5 minutes then go back.

This was a good bit to work on for the first day or two.

Hopefully videos coming very soon. I want to get more than just a couple tricks going before I shoot a video. But I'm working on one move in particular that I have yet to see done in contact poi. Hopefully by next week ill have some footage to share.

Thanks Teku! Definitely good ones. They have been added, and hopefully ill be adding a few videos of my own to it soon.

Also, Maiki (A spinner from down here) is working on contact poi too. Normally the largest size you can buy is 80mm C-Poi but he made himself a nice 100mm set. They were very nice to use. Im thinking about making a larger pair for some of the newer moves that im struggling with.

Yeah I just changed mine to 100mm yesterday and made the hole for the string wider (so it can roll freely), seems to help a lot.

I have the hard shell stage balls, I wonder if those would work. Do I risk it?
