I recently got the Square adapter for my iPhone since it is completely free. It is a adapter that you plug into the head phone jack and you can charge credit cards on your phone. And the idea struck me that I could (at the very least jokingly) say I accept credit cards as well as cash tips while busking. Just curious if anyone has actually used this to acquire a tip while busking or knows of anyone who tries to use it. The biggest down side that I see is that you have to completely stop your show and spend a few minutes getting the thing setup and processed. And that could take a way from your show or a few people that might have given you a tip because you stopped performing.

Here is a link to there website so you guys can get more info on it: https://squareup.com/

I haven't heard from anyone, a few buskers included, who love the Square. The downside is true and would take some careful timing so as to not disrupt your show. On the other hand, my busker friends said that everyone who tipped them on a card left $5+ because they didn't feel like a $1 tip on a card had a point...

I guess what you would need is a friend with you to process the charge while you perform. Otherwise I would think you would lose more money than you would make because potential cash tippers wouldn't see you performing.

I guess if Richard knows people who have done it then I guess it works, but to me it just sounds like a good joke to make if someone says they don't have change.
