Hello hello !

I'm moving to London in late June, I'm thinking at giving busking a go there (I've busked a few times in the past, but I'm so very far from the 100 show Dawndream talks about in the other thread)(I'm more at... 3, and they date a few years back).
I'm now a bit more confident about my level but I'm still very green let's say.

I'm sure people here have busked London in recently or in the past. Any tips ? Any good pitch ? Anything I should know about ? (policywise or whatever springs to mind really). I was there some years ago and Southbank was busker-dense, is it still the case ? How easy is it to get a pitch there ?

Any tips or testimony welcome, I'm curious :)
Ballziness,
Jo

South Bank: great, but crowded and slightly cutthroat. Get up early. If Nico is still outta town you'll maybe be the only CJer there - but maybe not.

Covent Garden: great, but with a "statues only" policy on the best place for a contact juggler. Good for a couple hours maybe.

Camden Town: not so hot.

Thanks for the info Richard.
What do you mean by the southbank is slightly cutthroat ? Like it's tense between buskers ?

Yeah, just a shitload of buskers out there, which means that it's not only tough to find space but there will definitely be some unscrupulous ones who may set up directly across from you, blast music over you, etc. Also see: why I don't busk at Ferry Plaza in SF during the summer any more.

The top of Trafalgar Square outside the National Gallery is open up to buskers too now. It tends to be a mixture of performers and statues. I don't know what the rules governing it are though.

Oh yeah, forgot about Trafalgar. There's a massive amount of space there, so crowd control will be tricky since most people will probably watch you for a bit from 50m away and then just walk off.
