Hello,

What is the name of the isolation where you roll the ball to the elbow and back, which keeps the ball isolated in one place?

in his famous video, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iC3b5JnSIE)
Okotanpe performs this isolation at 1.15 till 1.24.

I really love this move and started working on it, some tips and info would be very helpful!

Thanks!
Simon

Simon, I think this move has been called the badger roll, although it's quite possible that I'm massively confused. I can't give you any tips, I'm afraid. I've been trying to learn this move myself, but I'm still really sloppy.

outside to outeside roll isolation...
im not a nerd for names, but in my opinion first get a solid elbow to elbow stall via outside arm roll.
i notice that sometimes the ball breaks the flow when passing through one hand to another, so try to minimize this has if your two arms were one piece.
when this is clear the isolation is made through your body movement, if you check the video he is going on the sides to compensate, i dont know try a mirror or a fixed point between the ball and the ground, its up to you.
i find that slowwwww down movements increases control (a cliche here on .org, but its true), so try to do this movement slowly and study your foot and body work when moving to isolate the ball.
Its always good to break down movements so you can try to isolate it with one arm and try both arms, then if u feel ready tr it with both.
hope its helpful

Well, I think 5 penny is referring to this thread ( http://www.contactjuggling.org/phpBB2/v ... dger#58484 ) - and I suppose calling it a badger roll/iso is as good as calling it anything else.

As Vasco says, getting it slow is essential, getting every stall is essential. The biggest difficulty people usually have with losing the iso and speeding up is when it transfers from one fingertip to the next. To compensate, as the ball reaches one wrist from an elbow, tilt both cradles slightly upward, with your fingertips both pointing slightly upward. Compensate for the isolation by shifting your wrists and arms down accordingly.

i know what you mean, i saw the last video of mark making a good attempt working on that to.

what you need to do is practice the following.
* the both outside elbow stalls.
* the back of the hand transfers, this one is important because this causes most of the bumps in the iso.
* there is a stall on the back of the wrist that is usefull to
* slow rolling
*roll half way up your forearm and see the line it is rolling.

isolated back arm rolls, innit.

I really want to put a stop to these silly names. How the f**k is an isolated elbow to elbow anything at all to do with badgers?

everyone understands if things have sensible names that make sense. otherwise you get more questions like this. :)

I've been working on this as well. I think the only key is a gorgeous outside arm roll. I'd suggest making sure your stall point is super solid; while Okotanpe doesn't stall during that iso, I'm sure that stopping the ball at each stall point during practice would help solidify. I've found that I'm starting to land bridge rolls at the same time that I'm getting positive comments on my attempts to isolate the outside elbow to elbow roll.

Because if you do it barefoot and you drop the ball, your foot looks like roadkill?

<usage> "tried to do an isolation today, dropped my 100mm acrylic on my foot, the resulting damage and bruising is so bad, my foot looks like a roadkilled badger!"

See! Simple!

i do agree with keeping it simple when it comes to names, but badger sounds cool to me, just annoying that you don't know where people are talking about

Just think yourself lucky no-one's invented a move called the beaver then!

As an afterthought, anyone offering a video of a beaver isolation would def get a lot of youtube views!

They have such sharp teeth though... I don't think I'm going to be isolating any beavers in the near future.
