Soo I had a question for those of you who have been contact juggling for a while.

When I practice, I practice in a t-shirt, because it's obviously easier to control the ball without a sweatshirt or long sleeves.

BUT does anyone ever find themselves in a situation where they contact juggle with a sweatshirt or long sleeves? What if it's semi-cold outside, what would you do?

Is that a valid question?

Just out of curiosity because I live in Madrid, and it's not beautiful year-round, and sometimes in fact it gets rather chilly.

I hate cj with sleeves. I wear t-shirts pretty much the whole year round anyway, even in winter (London and Edinburgh aren't really that cold :) )

It does mean that I don't tend to cj outside when it's very cold though.

Yeah sleeves are a bummer but some times you just have to juggle! and that is when it is good to have a stage ball, then you can juggle but you don't have to worry about your sleeves getting in the way because well you can mess up and not worry about breaking everything.

you kind of have to look at clothing as a prop. Especially if you are a performer your costume might require long sleeves. I have more difficulty depending on what the shirt is made out of rather than whether or not it has long sleeves. Some long sleeve shirts i have are very slick and the ball actualy slides more if i am trying to move to fast. I have to remember to slow it down so that i can nail stalls i am rolling to. the cuffs on long sleeve shirts or sweaters can be an issue thourgh, finding a sweater that hangs more so that no matter what way your arm is the sweater hangs down is helpful. Same thing with dress shirts and collars or ties or vests or suspenders. All of these things can be obstacles but nothing that cant be overcome by good controlled movement.

I like sleeves when I juggle.

I wear a lot of long sleeved T-shirts. Too thick a material for the sleeves though, and I be scuppered.

I probably CJ more in sleeves than not. They don't bother me at all, and sometimes they are a bit of an advantage due to their slight cushioning nature. Obviously when they are too thick, or have some major cuff thing going on then it doesn't help.

Mind, I rarely use anything smaller than a 100mm, I might find sleeves annoying if I used smaller balls.

Adds to the 'nothing up my sleeve' humour too :D

I used to have these long black cotton/spandex gloves that went past the elbow and were awesome to juggle in. I needed to cut off the tips (the second joint past) to get it smooth and it was how I was able to keep my hands warm in the snow for OCCJD. I loved those gloves. I need another pair if anyone knows how to find a good pair.

I find myself practicing and playing at work, long sleeves. Sometimes I hate it, sometimes I don't even notice a change. Most definitely at my best with exposed arms.

Thicker fabric can tend to create a lot of rolls / folds. Can make rolling clunky. Can also add stall points you don't mean to even be there, which isn't very productive, but hilarious in my world =p

So yeah, I like arms exposed.

no shirt on at all is easiest, but there are situations in which clothing is needed. it's all about being able to adapt to the conditions you need to juggle in.

waistcoat, french cuffs, and a bow tie is not very easy.

Usually just a tee with me. If I can get a day where I feel like CJ is my number one priority, then the no sleeve's come out.

I'll do sleeves if it's a bit cool out. But if I'm wearing a coat or thicker sweater I don't like it very much. I agree that it's easier to use a stage ball if you have sleeves.

How cold does it get in Madrid?
