Okay, so I'm super cool and fell. On a hill. Made of concrete. And I bought some novus polish 2 and 3 to hopefully get rid of most of the damage. But as usual, even though my ball is already messed up, I am super afraid I will screw it up. Nothing I've found is really specifically geared toward acrylics. So if anyone could walk me through the process of using the polish without destroying more stuff, that would be great. :)

(And sorry if this is in the wrong topic.)

Novus Polish. Neon Husky sells it in a kit.

EDIT: Durr, missed you saying you had already bought Novus.

You could always buy a second acrylic, and use that one for performing and such, and use the busted up one for practice. More balls are always good! :D

From what I've heard, novus doesn't magically cure all, but it can get pretty damn close with good enough elbow grease...

Correct me if I'm wrong please.

Novus 1 is unnecessary - 3 will polish out the big scratches and 2 will bring it to a nice shine.

Don't be afraid about screwing it up - polishing takes a lot of effort to make any noticeable difference. Just don't over do a single spot, otherwise you can make a flat spot - but that's actually quite hard to do.

I'm going to take a page from one of my Linux using friends: Once you've broken it, you don't have to be afraid about what you do with it any more.

Your acrylics are going to eventually get scratched. It just happens. The very forces of the universe conspire against you so as to eventually scratch and chip your beautiful acrylic ball.

So, now that the universe has happened to your ball, you don't need to worry. It's not shiny and beautiful and new. Now you get to play with it without concern that you're going to ruin it, because you're not going to; the next stage of ruined for an acrylic ball is when you take bloody huge gashes out of it, and you usually have to do things like chuck it down a large stone staircase or from the roof of a building.

You're free. No need to stress. Play with your ball without concern.

Eventually, buy a new one that you can baby. Use that only on special occasions. When you finally ruin the new one, it becomes your beater and you can give your old beater ball to someone as their first acrylic.

I take a different approach. After 5 years of contact juggling, all my acrylics are virtually as new.

It's not that I'm overly precious with them (well, except for 2 particularly expensive ones I save for special occasions :) ) - I just look after them, and give them a good polish when any significant scratches appear.

A little care and attention goes a long way.

i've heard toothpaste works well, so i was wondering what kind of cloth i would use. would a white t-shirt work? the only polishing cloths i have have silver polish on them.

I would say you aren't pushing your limits. More BtnR during busking! I can get it 1/100 times, but hey, you gotta drop the hard s**t sometimes, and you aren't always on grass.
