Hi everyone,

I spin poi, fire poi, a bit of hula hoop, I can juggle a bit, and I know ~two holding/finger illusion sliding moves with contact balls.

So, I'm here because I want to learn and keep up on what's going on in the global community. What are five basic moves to begin with? Thanks for any input.

My story:

I guess this started from seeing Richard Hartnell perform in a youtube video, then I was at a friend's who had a ball that reminded me of it. I ended up learning this version of "enigma" (I've seen other moves with the same name): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0vnLPB8sGs that night and my friend ended up giving me the ball, which happens to be a fushigi ball with a metal core. I later found out these are non-standard and blow, so I've been disappointed. I really need to pick up a stage ball...

--

I got into poi soon after that, around July 2011, and within a few weeks I was playing with fire (nothing too complicated, of course). I've been practicing regularly, not very intensely, since then, and am part of a fire spinning group up here in Washington State.

I practice with socks, built a fire set with components from two websites (and have plenty of materials to fix it or build a new set), I've tried some really poor LED sticks but they break and turn off if they are shaken much or if they collide, I have glow sticks on shoe laces, and my latest set is a pair of garbage bag heads on soft rope that I got as a cheap gift from hawaii (they're actually really fun). I've also spun others' flowlights, have tried glow balls on cords/in nylon socks, have tried squishy objects in nylons, and I've tried out a few different fire sets. I'm going to be making my first contact poi set soon.

I started practicing hula hoop a bit in November 2011, and have picked up a few moves (I can spin, grab it from behind my back and bring it up above me; as well as spin it on my elbows and shift it to my neck and back).

Some of my friends that spin are phenomenal. Their the ones that really keep me going.

Welcome to Dotorg.
Contact basic: Butterfly - in and out, both hands.
Should be a gif. In the old tutorials archives from the main site, or a video tutorial from the tutorials section of the main site. Why don't you check those out. :)
