CJ in public? |

What kind of reaction do you guys usually get when CJing around strangers? The past couple days I've been carrying my acrylic all around campus and practicing butterflies and isolations whenever possible. I've got a techniques of relaxation class and it doesn't seem to bother anyone if I play with my balls during class. I've also just been practicing whenever I'm sitting around, waiting for a class to start or whatever.
Now, here's the part that surprises me. Almost no one has seemed to take any notice whatsoever. My RA said "wow that's trippy" but the funny thing was I wasn't doing anything. I guess it was an isolation of sorts, but I was basically just putting one hand under the ball then the other. Then when I started doing butterflies she didn't notice. The only other person who's even said a word is one of the art teachers who walked by while I was trying to do an isolation and all he said was "some people are so easily amused." Hmmm, somehow I get the feeling he wasn't exactly blown away ;) Then again I probably looked like Silent Bob trying to do the Jedi Mind trick and failing miserably.
I understand that I suck at this. I've only been doing it a week, I'm still pretty wobbly but I can do butterflies and get the occasional clean transfer (I actually think I'm doing quite well for 1 week). And my isolations are getting much better, though I don't think I have it down to where it really sits still yet. However, CJ seems to be such an eyecatching, mesmerizing thing that I'm almost surprised I don't get more notice even though I do suck. I mean not many people have ever seen it before, and you can't really miss it if somebody is flailing their arms around with a ball mysteriously rolling on them. I would think more people would take notice? I'm not expecting people to be amazed at my skill level or anything, but I would expect more people to at least be intrigued.
So what do you guys think of this, and what kind of reaction do you get while CJing in front of strangers, or classmates coworkers etc? Do you think the lack of response I've gotten is due to A)my lack of skill at this point B)a high percentage of the population being indifferent to CJ while a select few are fascinated, or C)people being reluctant to socialize
Honestly I think it's a combination of the 3, but I recently thought of C and I think it may play a factor. People just don't talk to strangers. People that know me, on the other hand, are more likely to at least take some notice. Just curious to hear everyone else's thoughts on this, or on the general public's reaction to CJ. |
