    hahaahhahhaah I'm really glad you and your friend liked Asj!

    Yesterday I finally got kick up to top of head stall with an acrylic! #EpicWin
    I was afraid of breaking my skull but everything went well...

    I don't like eca's 'petting the dog' version of the technique, especially for kickup to temples or kickup to top of the head. But then again, it is the same technique that kyle johnson uses... so i dunno

    I prefer the side kickup that lucas demonstrated, also seen here
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6-j32YjbKY&t=2m26s
    and here (jea9)(that means its pretty much means it is the most precise ninja kickup ever)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnPOQUTHx1Q&t=4m41s

    Generally I would recommend this progression:
    Kickup to behind the neck catch
    Kickup to temple balance (lots of cushion, drop your body to the side)
    kickup to forehead

    @Oct specifically.
    I think i know what you are struggling with when you say you can't get enough momentum/height out of the kickup. For example, if you look at the side kickup i was talking about... if you simply hold the ball on your foot and lift your knee up as hard as you can... the ball won't really go very high. you need to use your ankles like you would normally use your wrists. The amount of extra 'oomph' you give it using a quick flick of the ankle (first building momentum by lifting the knee.. then flick!) is where you are going to find the most control.

    Thanks Ryan , that makes a lot of sense! Increase the force by multiplying the pivot points... use the ankle like a wrist. Yep yep yep, this is exactly the tip I needed, thanks!

    now I can do with acrylics!
    O=D

    I'm so happy! I had never tried before with acrylics cause I was afraid of hurting myself, I already could do with a ful-filled stage ball that has almost the same weight than acrylics (465g instead of 650g), but a couple of weeks ago a friend told me I could do it and I was like: "Oh, who gives a s**t, the trick is awesome and it must be done with an acrylic, let's give it a try"
    and now, here it is:

    it's cool that everytime I try it with acrylics I stiil feel a little afraid, but now I can deal with it, it's really cool!

    Thanks Arnar.

    If I'm right you can do foot to forehead, can't you?
    If you can do it with a light ball, practice with one heavier but not so hard as acrylics... once you got it it would be easy to learn with acrylics too... It's all about not being afraid of hurting yourself...

    No pain, no gain.

    a lot of great tips in this thread!

    for me the only thing id add is that for my kick ups i come up and over my knee in the front but it's a much 'shallower' and lower curve than you feel should work -

    It comes quite close over my knee and up my body so that when its at head height it's really at the peak of its ascent, so there's less force to counteract when you stall...

    And id completely agree to practice kick ups to elbow stalls first, it gets you used the the feeling of just getting the kick technique and height right and the you can translate that on...

    its taken me about a year of solid practice to start hitting them on a regular basis, so be warned - you'll be doing a lot of running after stage balls!

    To kick high, bend the weight support foot too, and straight when you're throwing.
