I’m not usually one to put any stock in a moves name. But I just stumbled upon a type of move I haven’t seen before in the Sphere Manipulation world, that looks strikingly similar to a type of Contact Staff move I’ve seen. The sphere moves, are basically body rolls, where the ball travels around the body, under your arm or arms. “A Matrix” is the name of the type of Contact Staff that looks so similar. I’d assume the name is derived from the scene in, “The Matrix” where Neo is being shot at and needs to dodge all the bullets. Only because that is exactly what you look like when you do this move. But anyways, I only bring it up because it seems like these under arm rolls may hold a lot of possibilities for the future of body roll work. And seeing as we already have classifications like: Arm Rolls, Bridges, Hand Work, Head Rolls, and Enigmas, and Matrixes are already CJ moves, why not add them to SM?
OK! here they are! I'm SO excited, I just had change my pants!
Needs more thought... _________________ coming to you live from the aether.

I need to put LOTS of work into this move. But with the right body movements, I think it can be smoothed out and the idea can be expanded on. I guess another bad explanation would be that it is like an behind the neck roll, only the ball rolls around your side, under the arm, rather than around the neck.
1/2 Matrix BtN Roll
If you start from the end of the video clip, and do a cradle to cradle pass, then repeat the move in the opposite direction, I think it would look amazing. _________________ coming to you live from the aether.

In one of the Matrix films Neo is fighting all those Agent Smith copies, and is using a staff. _________________ "I've got my spine, I've got my orange crush"

I do a move I call 'the matrix' but it looks nothing like the one you mean.
All in slow motion, I hold the ball out in front of me, and doing a grip iso I move the ball towards my chest.
As it gets close to my chest I slowly lean backwards as far as I can, tip my head right back and (while still grip isoing) move the ball on a horizontal plane right over my chest and head, so I am in a similar position to Keanu when he is doing the lean back parallel-to-the-floor bit where the camera pans around him (see also 'ping-pong matrix style' video).
From here you can either fall down and hit the floor, or reverse the procedure (preferable). _________________ Sausages and plants and goldfish |

Ok, What makes a matrix, is the bullet dodge type movements. Colin and I have already been working on this a while, and the other week, I came up with the full matrix roll.
It starts in the cradle, then up the arm to a behind the neck roll, but instead of going behind the neck, it comes down under your arm, and across your chest, under your other arm. you then need to get the ball onto your shoulder, and then roll down to the cradle that you didn't start in.
To get this right, you need to bullet dodge like Neo. There's the matrix element. No need to go across the back of the neck, but you can always try it! I'd love to see this roll... I'm also gonna get Jea9 onto it when I see her next week... _________________ With practice, You too could be like Ryan Mellors... |

i was about to say theres a hat manipulation move that jea9 does, watch her full preformance again, but if you bend down and roll across your back, and then shift and roll, the ball would go along your side and onto your chest...
edit
YES! i just did the move in your youtube video. the half neck matrix think!
this is a huge new realm of potential! my hat is off to you _________________ .org addict |

Brilliant LTC!!!
Brb…
OH MY GOD! The Full Matrix would be CRAZY!
It’s so much easier with some sort of chest or neck roll incorporated. I find that it helps flatten the surface I’m rolling on, giving me more control of the ball. And it helps get that super hard twisty body swing thing going.
And I can’t wait to see what Jea9 will do with the idea! Oh yeah, that’s right. I won’t be there. I suppose I’ll just have to imagine what kind of mind blowing creativity is born from your little meet up.
This plays into the training thread a little, so I thought I’d share. So I spent about 4 hours today working on just these moves and when I took a break to play around with some other stuff I noticed my continuous around the neck rolls had gotten a lot better. I’m not sure if it was because the 4 hours of awkward body movement, the continuous chest and neck rolls in each direction, or the combination. But it was a weird feeling, not doing a move all for the better part of a day, then trying it and having it feel almost effortless.
LTC- I edited my explanations post and put the (full)Matrix in there. Dose it sound correct?
I'm so soar. _________________ coming to you live from the aether. |

Sorry dude, I won't have a camera with me...
Maybe whilst I'm in Rotterdam, Fuero can help us out in that department as well... _________________ With practice, You too could be like Ryan Mellors... |
