Hey everyone. Just found out about this site thru my friend and poi partner, Insignia. I recently got into cj after seeing some great videos online. I have been aware of it for quite some time but never let myself get sucked in. But after seeing those videos, I got the same feeling that I got when I first saw poi 6/7 years ago. I just had to learn it. So I jumped on homeofpoi.com and got a rubber practice ball and have been trying to get the basics down. Looking forward to learning some great stuff here and sharing the experience.

Semi-Related background:
Ive been practicing poi since 2001, moving from glowsticks, to poi, to fire poi. I'm part of a three man poi "team", Fluid Motion (myspace.com/fluidmotion3), with Insignia and our buddy Larsen. If anyone is in the NYC/Long Island area and wants meet up, feel free to get in touch with me/us at the myspace page above. Hell, if you wanna meet up for cj, that's great too. I'd love to meet some people who could teach me more.

Ooooh it's a slippery slope...

Now, instead of leaving scuff marks all over your ceiling (speaking from experience) all you have to watch out for are dents on the floor (again, speaking from experience).

Enjoy your stay!

I'll put the kettle on.

There's a lot of cross-pollination between Poi and CJ. It was only a matter of time before you crossed over to the sparkley side.

I slipped down that very same slope.

I hear ya on the scuff marks. The ceiling tiles in my basement have seen better days.

I think my HOP name is "Clancey" as well, but I don't post on the boards. I just use it for shopping.

Well they don't have to be flaming. They could be solid, or have LED lights in them. You can even do poi spinning with flag type thingies.

Yea. Poi is essentially the art of spinning solid objects on the end of two separate ropes/chains. I use a wide variety of stuff depending on the situation (tennis balls in tube socks, glowsticks, LED light balls, "day" poi with long nylon tails, wicks (specific for fire poi), etc. If you ever get the chance to see a fire poi performance, do it. It's great to watch as well as hear.

If you wanna see some of my videos, check out my two friends and I at myspace.com/fluidmotion3 and go to the video link under the picture.
