there is no 'better' way to use them, but i can tell you from experience that the bells get really annoying to innocent bystanders around you while you practice.

i disagree with rich, though. i find it very easy to make the balls not chime. i just threw mine at the ground four or five times until i broke the chiming mechanism *g*.
