Matt has been planning this for a long time, he said if he was ever going to make a new video then it had to be on a whole new level to his Liquid Crystal video. Think this does the job

This video feels a little overdressed to me. The dancing is very good but if he's not going to do more than four ball tricks then he may as well just use that hand for more dance moves? Matt's palm isos are invulnerable of course, but after three minutes of just claw and palm isos I was dying for something new.

Is it all playing at normal speed? Or is it speed corrected?

    1:50 is so so nice

I'm just totally in awe of how still his isos are. I don't care if you only have a few tricks, if someone's got them down that perfect, I'll watch the hell out of them.

I view this as less an "extraordinarily techy contact video" and more of an "INCREDIBLE contact video".

    Beautifully done!!

Well, I think this is going to be one of my first posts on cj.org!
I've never been one to hang out/train in and amongst the contact juggling community I'm afraid, as will be confirmed by anyone that's known me at juggling conventions. It's not that I have anything against the scene in any way in the slightest - I just find it hard to practice amongst others. I learned the bulk of my CJ in the company of just one person - that being Elsie - in a small cellar room to a constant backing track of mellow music, and to this day I believe that Elsie was the creative driving force for isolation based contact juggling - the innovation that made CJ watchable for an audience in the stage environment (I'm sure Elsie could chip in with a few inspirations such as Mushypea Rob, John Blanchard, Mark Bolwell, Paul Molyneux, Arbee). Elsie brought a new beauty to the form, with dreamy illusion and fluid, other-worldly movement.

My contact videos are never particularly techy, in line with my style. I've found that my development has been more in 'honing' the beautiful techniques rather than building a huge vocabulary of tricks - It's what makes me happy.

The vision behind both this and the previous video was to make something watchable - not merely a trick-fest to appease the juggling community. I remember back when we made Liquid Crystal saying that I wanted something different from the usual 'showreel', but something that agents would take home to show their friends outside of the juggling world. I like to think that we achieved that.

I'm not much of a 'trick collector' - I have always just looked for the pure beauty of effect in moves, and if I see that, I work on it. There are a few CJers that I see out there finding beauty in bodyroll moves that I hadn't noticed before - Oli Pinchbeck, Ryan, Dawn, Colin, Ed - so perhaps I should get practicing again! I'm finding it hard though, as it will be competing with my new obsession - RC heli 3D flying ( for a taste, check http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oc5fv7FifnQ ) - another time-expensive hobby, and another one in which there are infinite options of style, but I am drawn to fluidity rather than tech-heavy stuff.

So I guess I'm putting it out there, hoping that the video is enjoyed by others as much as Howie (@howie.tv) and I enjoyed making it! We're getting mostly good feedback at the moment, which makes me happy, as you couldn't imagine how much time, love, energy and effort has been put into it over the years! If you find this, Howie, thankyou again!

Oh, my isolations are less than invulnerable at best, by the way! The beauty of video is that you can pick the best bits! Fortunately they are, however, good enough to take an audience into the realm of their imaginations - a thing I rely on in my performance.

There are a couple of speed corrected parts in the video - generally not to enhance the effect, but because those clips were considered the best suited to that part of the video, and they were not quite long enough for the intended use. Those parts are 1.11 and 1.59. The rest is as shot.

    Matt

heh the same question is nibbling my brain all the time now... finish learning that new roll I'm almost done with or solidify my basic elbow rolls? gotta find a middle path between quantity and quality, I tend to enjoy full quality most but this video made me realize I don't want extremes.

flawless suitcase. i love the lean iso with the crossed foot. awesome and well executed concept with an element of social commentary that doesn't come off heavy handed. very nice video.

The only thing that really confused me, was due to how the thumbnail looks (and that I have never seen a video of Matt before), I kept waiting for some dude with long hair to start CJ. Then I realized he had short hair, and laughed at my stupidity. >.>

As for the video it's self. It is put together fantastically. After you said that you like honing certain moves and re-watching the video, I got it. The video became so much better to me, as I could see what he loves to do with contact.
