Hey all!

I'm very curious about this: I know Michael Moschen came up with much of the bulk, the essence and the tricks of CJ that are considered standard.
But what about the other common tricks which we didn't see him do, like (if I'm not mistaken) the enigma, the bridge, the ice cream, the "thumb hold" thing where you magically hold the ball, and so on and so on? Who came up with them?

Thanks in advance!

Haha, funny... now that all those moves are nameless people are wondering where they came from :) It's funny to think of lineage in CJ since it's only like 30 years old, save bodyrolls.

Questions for oldbies:

Did Greg Maldonado coin the squeeze-up / "Greg's Grip?"

similarly, "Bruno's Bridge?"

Owen Edsen's credited with the enigma... but these moves were all done before my time... I learned them all from Briney after they'd been more simply named.

No idea on the thumbhold.

Heh, JoViatte, it's ironic that you mistook sarcasm for irony :D

Fwiw, actually, who are the infamous Greg M or Owen Edson anyway? Their names are drummed into me yet having never watched any of the associated videos I could walk past them in the street and not know it. Why don't they ever come here and join in with this community?

I don't think Greg really contact juggles to much any more, but the last video I saw of him, he was doing some wonderful poi spinning.

@Elsie they are the american gang who made 'Contact Juggling: Part One' and Two.
Basic story Tony Duncan inspired Greg who inspired Remy and Owen, they formed the first 'crew' and made good instructional vids on a classic style.

Yeah, I knew that Ryan, I was more making the point that they have nothing to do with this site. Neither does Tony, really, come to mention it, excepting for the odd little video clip.

I guess what I'm saying is it's not so surprising that "Edson's enigma" or "Bruno's bridge" have become unknown terminologies these days.

I'd noticed that last year when I first joined...I'd started learning by watching their videos, so had also looked on youtube to see if there were any more recent videos, and was kinda surprised at first that there really weren't any.

What's with all these names you're throwing out? Everyone knows it was David Bowie.

...and now you know who invented all the standards.
Well, as much as anyone does :)

It was a lovely unspoken communal decision not to historically link people to tricks a few years back.
Just part of the magic that keeps this place non-elitist and fluffy :)
