What to do?
I've recently added multiball to my practice session starting with 2-ball palmspinning.

Usually I work with a 90mm for single ball CJ.
For multiball, I'm working with 76mm.

Moving to the smaller balls has brought to light an issue I have with the shape of my hands. My palms are very deep and my thumb muscle is very large.

This creates a canyon from which there is no escape.
RH Inward spins can't seem to get over the hump to the thumb and RH Outward spins have an issue where the ball "clunks" into the crevice.

Pushing with the pinky and reaching with the thumb just seems to make it worse.

So to all you multiball monsters out there, help!
:ahhh:

You don't have access to a webcam to upload a short clip to youtube by any chance?

At a guess try moving the position of the 2 balls, say by relaxing your fingers. Keep the fingers and thumb in contact as much as you reasonably can, there needs to be an element of pressure to keep the balls together but this needn't be that firm. The fingers and thumb should move wavelike, not so much pushing/pulling as caressing the spheres as they spin slowly about each other. You'll find the position of the balls in your hand and the finger movements that gives the cleanest path for you and you'll nail it soon enough. (this path being a level one even to reduce the chance of a ball running away)

I've been drinking so I reserve the right to drastically change my advice when I sober up :)

inb4 slow down

Bri has given me the best advice time and again... there is no trick.. there is just practice!
I ONLY say this with any conviction because in my own small amount of multi ball progress and every time I thought.. my hands were too small or they just don't flatten out that way or whatever... a week of practice later I found myself saying "Oh!"

Like the last few days I've been getting 4ball pyramids to spend more time in my hand than on my lap!

Practice, yo.

You can come up with so many reasons why a move isn't going the way you want (it happens to the best of us), especially in multiball. But the god-honest answer is just practice, discovery, and technique.

Sean nailed it. The motion of your finger should be very wave-like. For super-clean palm spins, the least amount of your palm should be traveled by either sphere. Stretch your hand out flat and try to get comfortable with having the balls pass over the tips of your fingers.

And for goddess' sake, SLOW DOWN! ^_^

Do you have Drew's book? If not I'd suggest getting it, it really is awesome.

Something that might help is rocking the balls back and forth rather than making a full circle.

All sage words of advice, my friends.
Thank you for your kinds words of encouragement.

I'm definitely practicing slowly right now.
Methodically practicing each 1/4 turn.
I've learned from my single ball CJ that speed comes after precision and control.

I've had no luck finding Drew's book anywhere that ships to Canada, most places are out of stock. Any suggestions?

I'm just starting out with multiball so if you fine folks say it's just a matter of practice then I shall perservere onwward and await the "Aha!" moment.

Neon Husky ships outside of the US...

And yeah, I echo what everyone is saying, K. I'm fairly new to multiball too and it is definitely a case of practice and then some.

I spent the first month of multiballing absolutely convinced that either my spheres were too big for my hands, or that my hands were somehow different to everyone elses. :)

You can get it from Jim at Neon husky (they definately have stock)/ Dube and also direct from me, I have my book, and I ship to canada too (link on MoM).
But you'll get it from Neon or dube quicker.

"Deep palms" means that your hands are always a bit crimped. This just comes from a lifetime of holding on to things, so don't feel bad.

Stretch your hands out, really spread those fingers out, and push your palms toward the sky.

And yeah, straight practice will widen those hands as well.

Oh...hi,Drew...

Yeah, Neon Husky is my place of choice for most CJ stuff so I'll be ordering from there. But good to know I could get it direct from you.

Hmm...though if you sell SIGNED copies it would be worth the extra wait...

What too drole??? soveda knows what is up.

and yea, I like Richards advice, because I have a similiar problem to you. The problem I see is that all that flattening of the hand makes it go from crimped to cramped, and then life is even more frustrating.
