New Technical/Moves Sections?
A new sub forum for all the different Disciplines would be great, and make it easier for us to discuss the finer details of contact juggling. 100%  100%  [ 48 ]

I HATE THIS IDEA AND WANT IT TO DIE!!!!!

No, man, I'm trolling. I like the idea. (;

Where would non-isolation single-ball hand based trick discussion go?

I'm sorry, Brine, but captchas will have to be filled out in triplicate, and then you'll have to provide photographic evidence that it's, in fact, you that is posting.

EACH TIME. MUAHAHAHAHA~

Maybe this way people get more motivated to post more videos - without a lot of editing and special music etc, just tricks and new ideas. I mean, so far when i am thinking of making a video i think of it as a task, while i shouldn't especially in dotorg forum. Is a great chance to have more categories, more motivation, more ideas.
I am for it :)

- Isolation
- Multiball
- Body Rolling
- Dance
- Other object manipulation (hoops, bugeng, batons, etc)

ps. This way we will also know where to search for our lovely videos and be sure not to miss anything interesting (at times like these i like technology :D)

Time to get my ass in gear and learn how to restructure the forums then, i guess...

Hang on... I read the thread now... i see your game, Senn! :p

Anyway. f**k it, I'm gonna redefine Contact. Isolations doesn't work anymore. Isolations Sounds separated. Illusion sounds like it links everything together. I wanna change bodyrolling to something like ContRolling, But I need a better pun, I think. Multiball ain't broke, don't fix it, unless people like the idea of Palm spinning and Morphing... but again, puns are needed. :D

Illusion/Perception Bubble
Bodycontrolling Playground
Multiball Padded Cell
Dance/Movement/Expression.
There are OTHER toys!?

there's the extra five sections. I choose illusion and perception because in there we have a lot more than just 'Isolations' which i find a very limiting term.
Dance/Movement/Expression because It's not just people that dance. The whole universe is a dance of interacting forces, moving with each other. we need to start tapping into this stuff.
I want to change to body controlling because balancing is not rolling, but kinda falls into the same category at the moment. same with stalls and throws and catches. but at the same time, you use your body to control the ball.

I think these new names are more specific descriptions of what is happening, but also don't limit those unfamiliar with ideas of what specific things they should be doing, and so freeing us all up a bit.

Can Another Admin show me where to make the changes so i don't f**k s**t up, or handle this for me?

We're going into the next wave....

*warms up tea* I was hoping it wouldn't end up on the shoulders of only one person.

Yeah, I'm guilty. I had a suspicion that a lot more people thought this would be cool but just weren't saying anything. So, I PMed about 100 recently active dotorgers. I still have 50 sitting in my outbox! I'll go delete those cuz I think we got enough response! I noticed a couple responded in here that didn't notice they got the message yet. ^_^ This kind of ended up being a dotorg petition.
But between people voting and posting AND *looks up at the 44 votes in favor now (some were previous votes and some over this weekend)* and 50 people got my message...that's a pretty good response. Much more than I expected! AND if no one responded, then I would know that I was way off about people wanting the changes.

Here is what I sent just so this makes sense:
Quote:
I’m being a little sneaky here and sending PMs to a bunch of us regular dotorg visitors (all non-admins).

You may have seen the proposed changes to our beloved dotorg forum. I love what is possible with the changes. It would make it more topic specific and I think it would make it easier for many new people coming in to find the right place to post. For example, I would love some specific areas that are proposed like a dance/style section. I know multiballers would love the multiball area, etc.

Here is the original thread- viewtopic.php?f=5&t=8270

On the 3rd page, Ed proposed how to how to lay it out in general. You can see it here- viewtopic.php?f=5&t=8270&start=30

Everyone who has ever voted for this has voted in favor of the changes. And as you can see, I prod every now and then. I think all that it is going to take to get the admis to do this is to just let them know again that we want it. I can bring it up every now and then but I’m only one person.

If you don’t care about the changes or don’t want them...feel free to ignore this!

But if you are even slightly interested in this and see anything in it that you’d like:
Do me a tiny and EXTREMELY easy favor. ^_^

Simply post in this thread:

I want this to happen. :D

That’s it! You can even copy and paste that! It would be fun to keep the wording the exact same to see how many of us are directly responding to this little message. But have fun with the smiley face! Post any kind of smiley face you want! Fun inside joke part of it. ^_^

Thank you for taking time to reading this. I’m so glad that each and every one of you are here on this forum. ^_^
-Sennyo
(I’ll go start this off.)

Thanks to everyone who took the time to read my PM whether you cared or not. :D

Help this man help this Blog! I like your passion and i know you will make it as good as possible :D

BTW, if we got a routine/complete show that is a mix of more than 1 techniques, will there be a separated chamber for these things?

yes, it's called contact juggling as performance, and exists already ;)

Say you want to discuss isolated BtN roll. which section? depends which angle you're coming from, and where your focus lies. technique wise, I'd go for ContRolling. Illusion aspect goes in illusion. there is no right or wrong. if a thread evolves, and becomes more one side than the other, it can be moved.

Say you want to discuss Waving as a dance form. you can take the theoretical approach, and whack it in illusion. or you can take the dance side, and whack it in dance. there are subtleties. they're actually obvious when you realise they might exist, and trust your instincts. :) you know this! I've heard about your brain! ;)

And while you're here, I remember you wanting a workshop with me a while ago... make it happen? we need to play, dude. :D

Still do want a workshop :ahhh: and yes we need to play! To be honest, i was hoping you to show up in Le Havre (sigh). I live a bit far from western/northern europe, but if i know confirmed dates of workshops/meetings some months in advance and can afford it as well (tickets/fee/misc. expenses) i will be there :D Till then i get my food for thought, through this blog as well as the MoM one

I like them, but I have some concern that new people may not get the body ContRolling one?

I'm in favour of having the extra sections, but I'm not (yet) convinced by Ed's new definitions.

As for replacing isolation with illusion, well, I don't think that everything we call an isolation is really an illusion. Is there really any illusion in an isolated arm roll? Surely, you're just making the ball sit still and looks kinda awesome. I don't know. Also, I don't think Illusion/Perception Bubble is very easy to understand as a section name.

Likewise, while I can see Ed's point that balancing isn't rolling, the problem with "body controlling" is that it surely describes all of the dance/illusion/isolation/multiball/drinking tea without spilling it too.

In guess this all kinda recalls various other discussions about trick naming and the limitations of names (see here for example, but I think it's come up elsewhere too: viewtopic.php?f=22&t=10024). I suppose that in a way I don't think Ed's new terms are any better or worse than what we have, but I think changing things will just be confusing. I think maintaining a continuity with historical terminalogy would be helpful. And if the old names are inadequate then so be it; the subtlety and interest will come out in the forums not their names.

I do think restructuring dotorg is a good idea though.

Ok, I'll leave the new naming system for now, but i Might throw in a trial somewhere along the line. I believe that Contact Juggling is evolving at the moment, and I think we need to reflect that evolution.

needs to happen soon. I'll chat to other moderators behind the scenes to make stuff happen. :)
