Half dance, half juggling, half mime, half magic....I'm a contact juggler, not a mathematician

Let's not forget rhythm gymnastics, those include manipulating a ball while dancing and dates back to the early 1800's with influences back to the early 1700's.

The credit I extend to Moschen is that be that he pulled a lot of existing arts together, added some new stylings of his own, and managed to popularize the whole thing which, even if it wasn't anywhere near the beginning of crystal manipulation, was definitely the major catalyst for popularizing it.

I don't like to call him the "inventor" or "father" of the art because I don't think that's fair to people like Tony Duncan (and no doubt many others) who were exploring the territory either at the same time or even before Moschen did. But I'll never argue that he isn't deserving of being the "public face" of CJ and the most important historical figure in its development so far.

I agree with you, but of course the irony is how hard he fought against popularizing it.

:D Ain't that the truth!

I'd love to meet him. I've heard such conflicting opinions that I just can't form a solid opinion of the guy. Sometimes I read stuff and think "wow this guy sounds like a complete dick!" and other times I feel like maybe he was just trying to protect his performance the way any of us might but came across in the media as elitist through doing so.

I wonder if he ever thinks about how many lives that act changed or if he's in any way fulfilled by all the different avenues that branched out from it. I'd hope he's that way instead of bitter.

I talked to someone who met him last year and said he has chilled out about the whole thing. He still performs what we now call contact juggling.

In 2002 Moschen was in Greece with his show at a festival and after that I went speak with him. He shared some very personal moments and how this crystal manipulation started for him. I cannot tell more than this but it was a great experience. The show was in Volos, central greece beginning of december, 2 months after i started cj as a hobby :D that made it even more impressive, both the show and the conversation!

Oh wow - that may have been my first encounter with contact juggling. I remember seeing this routine on the Paul Daniel's Magic Show way back in the early 80's.
