Welcome.....

The only rule : If you start a thread in this forum that does'nt have a video in it, the other users get to throw old, wet, fish at you. Or old wet tofu if your a veggie.

There are many videos scattered on this forum, some great pieces of footage sent in by users. So we thought it was about time to get them organized. Please place all contact and general juggling videos links here. Try to keep this forum exclusive to jugggling and dance orientated stuff. Funny movies and general silliness, should just still be posted in the off topic section. The cj.org hosted stuff will still be viewable in the video section on the main page.
http://www.contactjuggling.org/mx/index.php?page=9

We will eventually be moving all user videos in here, so if you come across a vid thread that has'nt been found, please give me a shout.

Well, time get get the clean up operation underway.

******************************************************

Beginers guide to web video carry on.
How to make a vid and get it on the web.

Firstly camera, the cheapest would be just a standart webcam. They cost next to nothing these days, but the quality is not great. But as long as you have enough light, you'll certainly be able to show us a few tricks. Next down the line would be an analog video recorder (records onto a tape). Again these days not so expensive, but you do have to go through the hassle of capturing it onto your computer. For this you'll need some type of video in connection on your computer. That might involve having to buy more hardware. The next alternative would be a mini-dv, dvd or hardisk camcorder. These are great for making homemade videos that look good. You'll go a long with these, as capturing onto your computer is easy and you wont lose any quality. After that your talking about DV-CAM, BETA CAM and an array of other high end recording equipment. Great if you can get your hands on it, but fairly expensive stuff.

Editing up : Windows movie maker is ok, it's free, user freindly and you'll be able to slap out an ok looking video quite quickly. A standart timeline editor. Open up the program, import the clip, cut it and glue it. Then render it out into a decent format. If your new to this rendering can be quite a tricky task. It's alwasy a compromisee between quality and acceptable size. An easy way is to compress it to a .wmv or windows media file. That way you can just compress it without really having to think about anything. Other than that, codecs can be used to make your files smaller. DVIX is probably the most common and is pretty good. Codec can be found free of cost on the internet.

In the begining, for everyones sake try and keep a video of a couple of minutes around 10 or 20mb. (Dont forget, the music track of a video can also be compressed to reduce size.)

I deal use adobe premiere alot for my edit work. If you'd like to learn alittle more on the guts of that nip by my site.
http://inertialforce.com/production.html
I've tapped out alittle on getting started with the program. Other than that theres loads of different editors each with the own sets of pros and cons, shop around, find out what suits you best. I'm still looking for a decent OpenSource video editor, I'll let you know if i find one.

Getting it online. You've got your finished film and you want to show it to people. Your going to have to find someone to host it for you. Bandwidth is always a problem with video hosting, you standart freebee webspace will general shut down after the video has been downloaded a couple of time. If you have your own webspace, figure out what your bandwidth limit is and you can base you film size of that. Hav'nt got acsess to private hosting, then there are a few alternatives.

http://video.google.com/
http://youtube.com/

These are two sites of a long long list that will freely host your videos without a question of bandwidth. Unfortuantly you dont really have control of the quality of the video. And it's out there for the whole world to see, rather than just being posted ona specialist forum.

A few little guidelines to posting videos here.
*Of course, keep them clean. Stuff deemed unfit for children shall be slapped in the depth of some dark twisted void.
*Stay open to criticism, because most likely you get loads of it.
*Equally, be reasonable with your criticism to others, take into account that there may be people just starting, and then a few encouraging words can be great.
*Be aware that you need loads of light to see these tiny moving balls in a low resolution web flick.
*Using music without permission is illeagal. Everyone does it, but it is against the law. The least you can do in this situation is to be sure to credit the artists in question.
*Funny cj movies get heeps of bonus points,.... heaps.

Questions? Post away :D

You are absolutely right, Marco.

I vote we keep the apostrophe then, I'm all for learning a new language. :D
