Thanks for sharing, everyone! Good to know I am not alone, but even better to know that one day I will see it myself.

And guys, here is the thing (and it's sort of secret too). After you let it go and it keeps floating, there is more. I've heard if you really really really good, all you need to do to get a ball floating is just to take it out of the bag :shock:. Keep rolling, people, and this day will come!

Cheers

I was really confused as to if I should be seeing the illusion too or not. Thanks for the help. Great thread.

Agreed with Elsie. I will never forget the moment that my enigma went from "good" to "fooling myself" during a street show. There's definitely a threshold one can cross through wise practice... I used to think that isolations were ruined forever for the one performing them, but it's not true!

One good trick: practice your iso three to five meters away from a big mirror (stage distance). Once it looks really good, half that distance. Repeat as desired.

sometime i would trick my self and it would float from my view. then at an improble speed it would move out of iso. then my mind starts to hurt, is that normal?

people also tell me that my iso are a lot better when i'm not paying attention.

I think it was Drew Batchelor who said how a CJer can become discourage from their isos and their CJ in general because the full effect is not seen from their perspective. "The Mind can't play a trick on itself." is how I think he worded it.

I, myself, have a hard time noticing if it is floating. The best I can do, and I can only do this with my acrylics, is pick something which I can see clearly through the ball and try to keep it in the center. At times, i'll look away and focus on other things while still practicing and see if i'm still in the same spot when I come back.

I tell students it's like tickling yourself. I felt like the enigma was like that; as soon as I figured it out, it lost its entire damn "whoaaaahh" factor.

The good news: I got it back later! ...after LOTS of practice.

I think that the more you progress, you more you see your own defaults : that's why it's hard to fool yourself ... And maybe like in magic, when you know the trick you lose the faculty to be impressed by it ! But you get an impact on the audience far before you get an effect on you. After, it's just a question of perfection ... or of perfectionnism. Who can tell he's perfect ?

just catching in on this....but after watching my new tutorial a couple times...i kinda feel like i spoiled the magic of the move. sort of like throwing up arrow signs at all the places to look in a ball and cup routine. you know its sleight of hand...but the couple things you miss keep you guessing. kind of wondering what other cj'rs feel about this. I know we pretty much gift out our 'tricks' but sometimes our viewing audience is greater than that of our dutiful practitioners. And i would hate to spoil the effect by having a video giving away the secret. :( *conflicted*

@firemage

I would like to thank you for doing that tutorial, i was having a very hard time improving my enigma and i was trying a whole bunch of different things in front of the mirror. The tip about switching from middle to ring finger was invaluable to me

I tend to keep this trick secret...and if it happens that I teach it to a juggler (yes, even beginners like me sometimes have something to teach, that's the true magic behind juggling), I recommend not to show it until the effect is not obtained in front of a mirror, or the trick behind it will be discovered easily.
Letting people know how to do it, indeed, makes me feel as if I told a child Santa Klaus doesn't exist...
