My apologies in advance if this question sounds too stupid, but I still have to ask since I have no one else but you, dear fellows, who could bring some light into my isolations problem.

Do you actually see your ball floating while you are performing isolations? I mean from that angle and that distance that no one else can see but you?

Because I can't, and I am very curious if it's just temporary thing or it will never be this illusion from an angle of a juggler him/herself. Let me clarify one thing though: when I watch my videos I can see it's floating and people around tell me that it totally does the effect. I am able to FEEL that it's smooth or stall, but I can not see the effect with my own eyes when I iso.

This has always been a problem for me, I must admit. And it bothers me because I am not sure if I have to rely on my feelings or wait for the visual impact to come.

Thanks!

I hear if it looks like it's floating to you, you'll stop almost anyone that sees you. I also hear it takes alot of practice to get there, do you have a mirror for practicing with?

i don't ever think that my iso's look floaty...ever but i feel it is because one i can see every little tiny bump and quiver that the ball does, and also because i know what exactly i am doing to make the ball look the way that it does so it does not seem like magic.

While I don't feel like it's floating, I do get a certain feeling when the ball is in isolation.

Maybe with palm-spins it will eventually look like it's floating to you (it doesn't to me), but with enigmas, especially the climbing enigma (hands straight in front, thumbs facing body, fingers facing audience), you'll likely never get the same effect as the audience.
One of the cool parts of that isolation is it's very difficult for the audience to see your thumbs moving up and down, whereas you can see both them and your fingers quite clearly.

Palm Iso - on the very rare occasions when i am a) having a good day, and getting it pretty nailed, and b) actually looking at the ball, then yeah, it looks like it's floaty, at least some of the time.

With enigma, never. It looks completely different from the CJers perspective compared to the viewers perspective, and without the movement of fingers over the ball to break up what is happening, it just looks like you are rolling the ball. Although, i must confess, these days i only ever focus on the very edge of the ball, in order to reduce wobbles.

I have come to the conclusion that the only way to teach Enigma well is for the student to actually see it being done from the performers perspective.

it was only when i saw the illusion myself that i knew i had it, if it doesnt look floaty to you then its probably not as isolated as you would like.

My ball floats 8)

Seriously, there came a point where I was becoming happy with the illusion I was seeing, and at the same time I started getting a different reaction from my audiences. The people with those logical brains still know what is happening but are amazed, and the people who don't understand what I'm doing think I'm tricking them, even after they've held the ball and checked my palms for velcro and magnets.

I felt like once I started seeing a floating ball too, I'd really upped my game.

Keep practicing. It took me 4 or 5 years to see any real improvement...

I agree with eyedea - for me it's not a question of the ball looking like it's floating, but a good isolation just feels right.

it's a mixture of both, i really do think if you can't see it then its probably not happening. well at least its not happening as well as it should, it shoul;d feel right too but i found that the more it felt right the closer i got to the ball both looking and feeling like it was floating to me, my aim in contact jugglinbg is not to create an illusion for the audfience but to create one for me.

My ball floats too :)

It does take a while, and I think some obsessing too.
