I wonder how well bowling ball cleaner would work. I do a fair amount of bowling and have use a few types of cleaners and supplies. One of the better types of cleaner I have found that isn't horribly expensive you can get from Dick's Sporting Goods Store. I don't know if they have it in Canada and I am pretty sure they don't have them overseas, but you can find them quite easily in the states. You can get some nice cheap microfiber clothes from Wal-Mart too. Was glad to run upon this thread too. First time I found a scratch in my bowling ball I was pissed for about a week. Think I will have to go grab a tube or two maybe even three to work on my ball with.

Sorry about the sushi.

I just got a new chrome/steel ball from Dube. It has a few dark scratch marks on it, and I'm wondering if its possible to clean those up. (I don't need it to be perfect--heck, I passed my last new ball to a two year old so I'd stop being scared of dropping it.)

it is possible to polish chrome balls but they will get dirty from the polish. so you will always get some polish on your shirt and hands. the other way is to chrome them but that is not so cheap

Hmm, used to use an acrylic resin to repair windshields (windscreens), i wonder if minor cracks could be repaired the same way... of course trying to get my hands on the really good non-yellow stuff would be hard. I'll just have to wait till i break one to see.

Well...normally I use toothpaste, but something happened a couple of months that seemed to work. I was at a graduation party and my younger cousin was being allowed to hold my practice acrylic. Her hands were covered in icing at the time, which I didn't care that much about because I figure icing's easy to wash off, and the kid's having fun, right? So she rolls it around in her hands for a while, and I go wash the ball off in the sink.

And that ball looks flipping gorgeous! Maybe it just looked nice from washing in general, but it seemed much more polished than before. I'm not going to go around icing my balls (oh goodness...) now, but it was still pretty surprising.

Can you use toothpaste on any ball? I have a white Mr.B ball, but its an older model. Its a hard rubber ball, I can squeeze it if I want, and it has a decent weight to it.

Hmm... I don't think so. I've only used toothpaste for acrylics before. I think rubber balls can be washed with soap and water to get dirt off, but scuffs are scuffs (from my experience).

Sometimes the eraser of a pencil is just perfect for getting scuffs off of stage balls ^^

I was busking one day and this guy started talking to me who worked with acrylic. He told me that the best way to do it is to lightly give it a once over with a blowtorch. Obviously if you don't do it light enough the ball will just burn and melt, but with care it would be fine. He said it would work with just about any flame, so just a regular lighter should work. Might be worth a shot.
