So!
As if I didn't already have a bunch of things occupying my time now, I have decided to take my multiball studies a little more seriously.

I am challenging myself to learn all of the lessons in Drew's book Multiball Contact.
I will be making videos of each lesson and move in a before/after format. (an idea from Drew himself) These video will NOT show how to do the move, but rather what the move looks like when, hopefully, done successfully.

The only time limit is to complete this before...I die, i guess.

The only reason I'm posting this here is to allow other people the opportunity to jump on the bandwagon as well. The book is quite helpful. Even if you don't complete the whole book, it will help you become a more distinguished contact juggler.

I want to make sure I understand and effectively learn each move before moving on to the next.
I feel this will be a beneficial path for me to take. It forces me to get out of my funk and gives me the next challenge without having to go through a bunch of videos to find the next move.

If you want to join, awesome.

If you don't have Drew's book, Here is a link:

If you have Drew's book, here's the chance to skim through it again.

Happy Juggling!

Ooh hide and seek? *starts looking* Marco!

I accept your challenge once my copy of multiball arrives in the mail and my camera is fixed...

I disagree. I believe it's one if the most important to share. Yes, some of it is about how to hold the ball properly but it's more about how to get you in tune with the ball. it isn't just the ball you should be focused on; it should be your whole body+ball. The lesson also starts you off in isolations...(which kick ass...)

You sir have the powers of an earth bender. It is your choice to use them for good or evil, which will you choose?

I was specifically referring to 1.1, I can see the point in the "moving in space" and "rolling between hands" parts and beyond which are the bits that seem to be about being in tune with the ball and the music/your breathing/internal rhythms.
(That all sounds a bit new agey doesn't it :))

Well, I feel I need to make something clear.
These videos that I'm making are primarily for my records of progress.
However, If someone does the challenge and they get stuck, It's my obligation as a fellow Contact Juggler to provide a helpful resource if I have one; because, let's face it....It's harder to learn from a picture than a video. The book will tell you how to do something, whereas the video will show you of what it might look like when someone attempted to learn and document it.

Whether it's new-age or not, Contact can bring out a certain magic in people.
You see all of the greats and how they influenced all of us. Kelvin, Moon, Ryan and Dawn, Drew, Nika, Okotanpe, Druid, Jea9, Ed....All of these people have very different styles but one thing in common:
They aren't robots; They're Flowbots.
There is no standing around doing trick after trick and waiting for the show to be over. It's the exact opposite. You can tell they're getting off on it. And I don't care what anyone says...It's much more fun to watch someone get-off on what they're doing than to watch someone show-off.
It's as if they're telling a spherical story; Which is awesome - it let's us know that this kind of performing exists and can be done by anyone.

No matter how often you use the first few figures in this book, they're still very helpful. They tell you every move you learn in this book can be approached this way; Moving around the room and using your whole body - Giving it your own magic; But you have to discover what it is first. And the only way to do that is to start at the beginning with the first lesson.
"You have to learn how to hold before you can roll." - Drew

My first video will remind me of many things which I may have forgotten about contact. Hopefully it will point someone else in the direction they need to go in, even though it doesn't apply to them.

I get the feeling ( probably erroneously that you think I'm disagreeing with you. I actually agree entirely and take my balls for walks daily (that didn't come out right!) and spend a fair bit of time just holding the ball changing the way I am holding it. I value the sense of mindfulness I get with cj (esp isolations and multiball) and it has helped me through depression.
I think this means I agree with you :stack:
