Hey guys,

Just a quick update on the contest and voting. The servers went down for about six hours two nights ago, I planned on keeping the polls open for at least six hours past the deadline to make up for it.

Unfortunately, though, it looks like the BallotBin servers are still kind of clogged. According to the service's administrators, with whom I've been in contact for the past two days, this new complication is due to another (huge! 10-20k user) survey being done on the site by some university on the east coast. We've got a backlog of some ~200 voter registration/confirmation emails still to be sent out, and these won't be able to be sent until some of the other traffic on the site slows down.

As such, I'm going to keep the polls open until 4/05/2011 12:01 pm PST (that's noon today), assuming that these emails get sent out before then. If they haven't been sent by then, I'll keep it open for longer. Since some of these are people who registered yesterday morning, it's not fair that they don't get to cast their vote.

Sorry voting has been complicated this year - it would seem that we've outgrown this method of voting / winner selection. I've got a whole list of ideas about how to level the playing field next year (and make it more fun!), so be on the lookout for improvements on the contest next year.

Thanks for being so patient!
