Welcome to CJ Imagination Theatre (aka I busted my digital camera so all I got is gif animation)

match this tempo of a single eight-count

Interpret the dots as you will...

just a silly idea I had while trying to choreograph rather than groove. While breaking down/trimming the music, I needed a way to remember/visualize with the music... I roughly heard five different notes, so I set them to these five [almost] arbitrarily placed dots... assigned a stall point/zone to each dot (kinda like DDR arrows)... then proceeded to see if I could actually hit the sequence... end result was a shaky (and not pretty) yes... rather than subject you to cell-phone video, I thought I'd ask that you share your thoughts/interpretation (or better yet, video)...

btw, the actual audio ended up as a 50sec intro/outro thing with this sequence tightly looped eight times...

It may be that I've just woken up, but I haven't a clue what you're on about!

*edit*

And more to the point, what's the prize?!

:D

so instead of DDR, this is more like.... CJCJR?

hmm, sounds intriguing, especially as a sort of fun personal challenge/training. Probably not for making pretty, coherent sequences (since the points are pretty randomized, like you mentioned), but a good excercise for finding out new possible combinations, which could then be incorperated into pretty, coherent sequences.

Another possible variant: applying this sort of thing to four-ball sequences. In this case, the stop points wouldn't be stalls, but different ball orientations... but how to change that into a clean notation would be a bit tricky. For example, it might be useful to use four different colored balls (and have four similarly colored ball icons on the screen) so that they can all be clearly differentiated.

wrote this thread right before going to bed...
let's see if I can clarify now that I've just woken up...
at the very least, this'll turn into an example of what doesn't work...

the gif shows five notes in a melody, which for some reason I then assigned to five stall points... (if you prefer numbers, the sequence is: 5-4-245-3-4(4)3-2-123-2-3-4-5-4323) [I'm not very good at music transcription]

if I remember correctly, the dots from left to right were:
(1)left palm, (2)left forearm/elbow, (3)left or right cradle, (4)right forearm/elbow, (5)right palm

(intentionally omits the idea of just posting the music)

not sure if I'm making things any clearer, or even if that would be a good thing. Like I said, I wasn't happy with what the actual sequence ended up looking like... that probably means I should keep changing bits of it... ok, I'm rambling again

Howl's Moving Castle or Spirited Away music for anyone who can make use of this? shipping anything in the real world might be kinda pricey, considering how spread out we are... or if you're not into scores, I'll add the music your video if you post one :D

:D now that I think more about it, and given what resulted, a comparison to Twister rather than DDR might be better... but DDR has music, so let's stick with that
as for the four ball thing, I think it would be difficult (for me) to hit that many shapes so quickly. And to tip-toe around the idea of a clean notation, I thought it better to go with a simpler ink-blot kind of representation. 'Better' being more accessible/approachable and open to interpretation, but lacking in accurate communication...

note to self: get a full night's sleep tonight so you're not completely incoherent tomorrow
