I remember when I first began toss juggling and from the book "Beyond the Cascade" a series of two and three ball tricks that was deemed to be the tricks to help develop basic motor skills, Ie all the various patterns and throws could be identified in other more complex tricks.

So I've been wondering can the same be said for contact juggling, are there any basic motor skill type patterns to learn and continually practice to help with more complex patterns.

I'd say stalls can help in body rolling.
Palmspinning two balls or more helps for 1.
Taking your fallen ball with your feet instead of hand helps your foot balance and so your footcatches (and makes your back feel happy)

These are what came to my mind, maybe a better experienced contacter could say more.

The one ball section of 'Multiball Contact' has some useful motor-skill building basics that are well worth dedicating some time to.

I'm kinda of thinking that learning two, Three and four ball palm spinning in both hands and both directions would be a good step for all other palm spinning tricks as most focus on both directions and these numbers.

not so sure about butterflies or rolls though.
