|
|
I actually managed to restore my acrylics to (almost) their original splendour and the best part is it's not too difficult or costly.
What you need:
--Novus plastic polish (can be bought quite cheaply off ebay: linky ) you will definitely want grade 2, but grade 3 is good for those big scratches
--A cloth of any description, just a blue j-cloth is fine
--A table
--An elbow
--Some grease for said elbow (this will be for sale in your local DIY megashop)
__oh and some legs or a willing assistant
What to do:
Lay the cloth flat on the table with a bit of overhang, hold this overhang in place with a leg (Preferably your own) hold the other end of the cloth taut with one hand.
Plonk novus onto cloth then start polishing the ball, takes a bit of downwards pressure to get the best results but it's well worth it. A circular motion seems to work best but as long as you're pushing down onto the cloth table arrangement quite hard you should be alright.
About 10 minutes for a 75mm should be more than enough, unless you let them fall into rack and ruin like I did, but I'm amazed by how nicely they came up. I reckon I'll need another stint to get them fully up to scratch (narf) but they're almost there. _________________ Now all gatherymost to amuse it and have a tilty elbow or a nice cuffle-oteedee - Oh Yes!

hmmmm.... Now I'm thinking of making alittle rig for this. Keep the fabric taut between a wooden frame, but also have it over a small bit of foam. That way when you press down your comming in contact with more of the ball at the same time and therefore polish it quicker. sounds like a plan, as i said this way is the cheap way, but so far it's the most effective I've tried, also note; use an old table, no antiques or you may get dentage. _________________ Now all gatherymost to amuse it and have a tilty elbow or a nice cuffle-oteedee - Oh Yes!

probably some closed cell foam would work the best for that, you want some pressure into the ball... _________________

I favour a buffer on a power drill. _________________ http://ministryofmanipulation.com |

yup that's certainly less elbow power, but this way is cheaper with pretty decent results _________________ Now all gatherymost to amuse it and have a tilty elbow or a nice cuffle-oteedee - Oh Yes!
