umm... its not jives at all... its just fixed point
classic classic mime.
Hold a ball, block, book, bottle of wine, etc.
step away
keep the object in the same place (as if it is fixed in space)
<Help.. i'm a mime in a box>
The basic is just cheesy.. but once you work it like crazy, you'll find there is a lot of magic in the technique. The illusion can be made as strong as isolation.
THEN!!! you can mimimize how much you use it and adapt it in other ways. All movement can be understood as something happening in relation to something else. So.... if we can learn a simple way to intensify the illusional qualities of one movement, we can adapt that principal to all movements
<i think>

thanks ryan
that's what i guessed it referred to but i wanted to hear it first hand from the people that had been using it here.
the thing that popped into my head originally was the good old walk onto the stage only to find that your prop trunk/suitcase becomes 'stuck' in the air
i wasn't sure how exactly it was set apart from terms like isolation and, more specifically, body isolation.
the reason i attributed it to jive is simply because he is the first person that i had heard use the term specifically related to juggling.
i would imagine someone like jerome thomas may have ideas on the subject (specifically related to juggling) too...
i watched your hanger video last night by the way and it is truly beautiful - thank-you for sharing.
those combinations of fixed point and negative space make for some gorgeous manipulation.
