I can see where you're going with this and it's interesting. I hadn't actually though of an isolation round that way. I too however am not sure of the origins of "the betsy"

Names are arbitrary.
So I met a lady named Betsy.
She was just learning.
She was doing this instead of a butterfly. So I named the trick the Betsy.
The next year I named a trick The Chaz, which I have yet to post. Chaz was doing a reset everytime. Which made me remember the reset trick. Which is actually like a fly away magic trick.

Reset:
To start at the beginning instead of continuing from where you are.

So when someone is learning they will place the ball back where they started instead of trying to do what they are doing from the new location.

An example.
You roll the ball from the back of your hand to the palm.
Instead of rolling from the palm to the back of the hand you pick the ball up with your alternate hand and place it on the back of your hand. Thus reseting your position. Then you repeat.

The reason I try to stop this is because it becomes a pattern. Roll reset roll reset. Instead of roll roll roll roll. The reset is visually distracting as well as being something your muscle mind memory will need to unlearn later. Also learning a roll in reverse is very important and should be learned.

Oh and the reset trick(The Chaz) is one of a few illusionary looking tricks I do. It is similar to falling up.

What fingers do you have the ball resting between? I rest it between my middle and index and it keeps sliding off

This trick comes from a 3 finger cradle.
The ball is in the palm.
You slip your middle finger under the ball.
Then you push the fingers out.
And your hand goes flat with the ball on the back of the hand in the 3 finger cradle.

Does that help or even make sense?
