practice in the dark. like in your room at night. make sure you can see your acrylic (or other ball), but not your hand. iso away. if it's iso'ed, you won't see it move.

btw, no, i can't iso

Surely if you can't see properly, you can't see where you're going wrong? and the isolation will go wrong, but you will be unable to tell for certain, and will teach yourself bad habits.

The chorus of a song springs to mind: 'Just because it feels good, doesn't make it right...' hmmm... interesting words...

here's an idea which may work, haven't tried it yet because i don't have the equipment. i was thinking about whether I was isolating the top ball of a four stack while walking round it in a circle. There's nothing to base the isolation on like I would standing in one place.

So my idea: a laser pointer on the ceiling pointing directly down, keep the dot in the centre of the ball being isolated.

Would that work?

Thom: Yes. It would. but you would have to think about the vertical isolation all by yourself.

I had just read the first post and was thinking : but that's clearly a brilliant idea : so simple and easy to try out !!!
and then you make me realize this wouldn't be a good idea my day will be sad...

I like the idea. So long as you can still see a small trace of light on the ball, i think this could help. It is much easier to notice if a single point of light is moving than trying to think about an entire ball. Plus, dim-light isolations ''look'' better; there is less visual information to tell if the ball is moving.

I approve that. Acrylics are beautiful with only a little glimpse of light....

...hooooo..... shiny... ^.^
