Little tip for my fellow newbies. You know that fabulous advice everyone keeps giving us to slow down? Yeah. Well, when you first use an acrylic after you've been using a practice ball, try slowing down to the point that you would if you were learning all your moves from scratch. Know why? Because acrylics are slippery little devils with a life and spirit of their own that want to keep moving and go flying all over the place, and they really hurt when they land on your knees. Oooow.
Alternatively, invest in some body armour. _________________ personal site | photography | livejournal |

My first acrylic was actually a silicon ball, far too small really but all I could afford and just wanted a clear ball instead of stage balls, and it was heartbreaking the first time I dropped it and it scratched, but not so worried now. |

Cause when I first started to CJ back in 95ish don't remember seeing acrylics.
And yes should be better than I am but with only the James Earnest book and
Kids it wasn't until I got the internet I realised how much more I could do. |

My first acrylic smashed a dish the first time I played with it. The second time I played with it, I accidentally threw it at my collar bone. Ouch.
But I'm still uber protective of the acrylics I got a few months ago. I dropped one the other day and almost died of a heart attack...... My poor child..... So basically, new (or relatively new) acrylics are just as important to me as my first one! |

Yeah, I love the elbow/collarbone/sternum-whack with my 100mm acrylics.
It's made up for by the fact that I practice in a space with lots of foam rubber mat - so they bounce when I drop 'em! |
